Swagatha Ghosh

Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Physics, Nagoya University, Japan

Swagatha Ghosh is a structural biologist with keen interest in macromolecular biophysics of proteins using conventional and advanced X-ray crystallography and UV-VIS spectroscopy. Using serial- and time- resolved crystallography techniques, she aims to elucidate structural mechanisms in proteins. Previously she has co-founded a biotech company (Serial X AB) based in Sweden, that develops innovative sample- delivery techniques for serial synchrotron crystallography. In August 2022, she moved to Nagoya University (Japan) as Assistant Professor to pursue her research on bioengineering and applications vertebral- based far- red fluorescent proteins (FP). Here, she aims to understand the energy transfer mechanisms associated with photo physics of biomolecular fluorescence. Further, using structural evolution techniques, her team is developing novel FPs for in vivo applications. In addition to her research, she teaches experimental biophysics to undergrad students and is actively involved in building networking platforms for international researchers at Nagoya University.
