Stuart A. Ralph
Head of Department, Biochemistry and Pharmacology, The University of Melbourne
Stuart Ralph is a researcher and teacher and head of Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology at The University of Melbourne. The Ralph lab researches the molecular and cell biology of apicomplexan parasites, including the causative agents of malaria (Plasmodium) and Toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasma). They study aspects of this biology that may be targeted by drugs and vaccines, as well as seeking to understand and respond to antimicrobial resistance in these parasites. The lab employs multiple light and electron microscopy modalities to understand parasite molecular cell biology, addressing challenges and opportunities of imaging parasites that are among the very smallest eukaryotic cells. Professor Ralph has worked at the University of Melbourne since 2007 after postdoctoral research positions at the Pasteur Institute in Paris and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne.
