Rene Hessling is Managing Director of Carl Zeiss Australia & New Zealand which consists of three business units: Medical Technologies, Vision Care and Research Microscopy Solutions.  

With a PhD degree in neurobiology and systematic zoology from the University of Osnabrueck, Germany, he originally joined ZEISS Microscopy in 2002 as an application specialist for confocal microscopy, supporting northern Germany and Scandinavia. From 2005, he managed the Training Application & Support Centre, a team that provides second-level support for various microscopy technologies across EMEA. From 2008 to the end of 2011, Hessling assumed the role of sales manager for ZEISS UK before returning to Germany in early 2012. In 2015 he moved to Sydney to manage the Industrial Quality and Research business for ZEISS ANZ and in 2021 took on the role of Managing Director.
