Dr Raghvendra Tewari
Dr. Raghvendra Tewari currently president of EMSI has an illustrious scientific career spanning for nearly thirty-four years in the field of phase transformation and electron microscopy where he has adroitly managed to pursue inquisitive based fundamental research along with applied research work involving development of new alloys or providing solution to several problems encountered in materials. He has extensively used transmission electron microscopy to study the phase transformation and used these concepts in developing new materials. The work of Dr. Tewari on the Nb based alloys needs special attention where for the first time in India refractory-metal based alloys and in-situ composites were developed on a commercial scale for Gen IV nuclear reactors. By optimizing various parameters, he has developed new fabrication routes, studied phase transformations, oxidation response, neutron damage, etc., on these
alloys. His contribution led to the fabrication of a high temperature liquid Pb-Bi bearing loop reaching a temperature of 1000oC. Under his leadership an innovative fused salt electrolysis method for producing Pb-Li eutectic alloy for fusion reactors has been developed. International patents have been awarded and the technology is transferred for its mass production. A forced circulation loop carrying Pb-Li has been successfully erected. A new Ni-Mo-W-Cr alloy, which can sustain 700°C under fluoride atmosphere, has been developed at commercial scales for molten salt reactors. Under his leadership a rare earth magnetic plant has successfully started producing indigenous rare magnets for strategic purposes. His work on ordered omega phases has been widely referred in the literature which he extended in solving various problems; particularly in special steels like maraging steel to realize their full strength.
