Mike has been in the fields of electron microscopy and electron probe micro-analysis for more years than he cares to remember, spending most of his working life first at Johnson Matthey, anaylsing mainly Pt-group metals, then at AWE working with a wide range of materials, including radioactive metals such as U and Pu. In that time he has served as President of the European Microbeam Analysis Society (EMAS), President of the International Union of Microbeam Analysis Societies (IUMAS) and Chair of the UK delegation on the International Standards Organisation Technical Committee on Microbeam Analysis (ISO/TC202). He was awarded an AWE sponsored PhD from the University of Bristol on 'Electron Probe Micro-Analysis of Radioactive Materials' as a part-time mature student in 2020.
