Hiroshi Okamoto

Professor, Akita Prefectural University, Japan

Hiroshi Okamoto received a Dr. Sci. degree in experimental low temperature physics from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 1995. Since then, he has worked at universities and national/private research institutes in Japan, North America, and Europe. He is currently a Professor at Akita Prefectural University, Akita, Japan. His research interests initially was the measurement problem in quantum mechanics, which led him to work on macroscopic quantum phenomena in superconducting quantum devices. He was later involved in microscopy and biophysics, and learned of the difficulty of molecular-scale bio-imaging. He was able to find a connection between these two fields and is working on quantum electron microscopy today.
